Our Creative Curriculum 2015-2016
During the autumn term, Year 2 visited their class name landmarks, Royal Pavilion and Battle Abbey. They sketched the buildings and even learnt about different shading techniques. In English, they wrote recounts, poems and adventure stories about their class names.
Timbercroft Australia Zoo
During the spring term, Year 2 worked towards creating their very own Australian Zoo! They also published their own information booklets on all the fantastic animals you could see at their zoo. These ranged from crocodiles, kangaroos, snakes and even box jellyfish! They were very busy getting messy and creating their very own animals using paper mâché as well as producing their own creative aboriginal art.
During their PE sessions this term, the children learnt an aboriginal dance which was great fun! They also got to be their favourite Australian animals!
Brave parents and carers from year 2, took part in their very own version of "I'm a parent get me out of here" which the children hosted on the day. They drank scorpion venom and kangaroo wee, and they even ate meal worms and locusts.
Safari Pete joined Timbercroft for the fun of the day and brought with him snakes, scorpions, meerkats and a baby crocodile!
During the Summer term, Year 2 will be experiencing a ‘Beach Bonanza’. They will be learning about Queen Victoria and the influence of Victorian events on seaside holidays. During English, they will be writing imaginative poems, instructions and narratives.
In Maths they will be working through a variety of investigations based on the beach which will require a range of strategies for solving. As they are so adept at Art and DT, they will also be creating their very own puppets and pebble art. Watch out for aspiring actors and actresses at home!
After working so hard during the SATs, Year 2 will be rewarded for their hard work with a delicious ‘fish and chips’ lunch followed by an afternoon of beach related fun. However, the fun does not stop there! They will be visiting a British beach, Minnis Bay, where they will be enjoying the British summer without a pencil and book in sight!
