Science at Timbercroft

Science at Timbercroft is taught alongside Cornerstones as well the National Curriculum to ensure all objective for a year group are met.

Our aim is to ensure that children are engaged in science by developing a scientific knowledge, as well as cementing an understanding of the different ways scientific questions can be answered. This will ensure children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses of science, today and for the future.

All children are taught essential features of scientific knowledge, methods, processes and uses. Through building up a solid foundation of knowledge and concepts, children are taught to understand how science can be used to explain what is happening, predict how things will behave, and analyse results. From key stage 1, children are encouraged to follow their own line of scientific enquiry and plan their own investigations.  These types of enquiries would include: observations, finding patterns, identifying, classifying and grouping; comparative and fair testing, collecting and analysing/presenting data.
