To kick start their Great Fire of London topic Year 2 invited parents into school for a morning of construction, building Tudor houses to represent London in 1666. Then we set up the houses in the playground on Monday and the fire began! We made sure to follow several fire safety precautions, which the children will be learning more about when we go to the Fire Station on Friday. Our fire burned for 1 hour, nothing like the 5 days of the real fire! The children were very engaged and loved experiencing what it might have been like for Londoners at the time. They loved watching the flames but didn't like the smell of the smoke.
